Benefits of Near Infrared Light

We have been astonished at the results we have seen in the first week of our new LED Infrared Light  on patients.  We treated everyone that came through our practice: we treated broken ribs (cyclist that came off his bike last week), an injured knee (also a cycling injury), chronic knee injuries (multiple), lower back pain (multiple) , a frozen shoulder, blocked ears and neck pain.  Everyone felt relief directly after the treatment. They observed increased blood flow to the affected areas and reduction of pain directly after treatment.

Near infrared light has 3 main positive effects on the treatment area:

  1. It increases nitrous oxide in blood vessels causing dilation and this has the effect of increased blood circulation.
  2. It increases lymph drainage in area treated reducing swelling.
  3. It increases ATP production in mitochondria in cells stimulating cell repair. Inside the mitochondria of every cell are receptors which respond to Near Infrared wavelengths. The light triggers an increase in cell metabolism, protein synthesis (including collagen), and anti-oxidant activity (meaning the cells detoxify). Additionally, it reduces inflammation and pain while simultaneously triggering growth and regeneration in the cells.

What is the difference between Red Light Therapy and Near Infrared Light Therapy?

Red light falls has wavelengths between 630-700 nm on the electromagnetic scale and is used to treat the surface of the skin. Near infrared wavelengths fall into the invisible part of the light spectrum between 700 and 1200 nm.  The longer the wavelength, the deeper the penetration to deliver energy to the cells, stimulating healing and relieving pain.
